Why 1901?
On December 12, 1901, Guglielmo Marconi successfully transmitted the first transatlantic radio signal from Poldhu, Cornwall, England, to Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. This achievement marked a significant milestone in communication history, demonstrating the feasibility of long-distance wireless communication and laying the groundwork for further developments in radio technology.
On the same day and year, just a neighboring continent away, Lem and Annie Reed were married in Washington County, Kentucky, cementing the start of The Reed Family. Thirteen children between the two, dozens of grandchildren, and branches of generations are directly linked to Lem and Annie.
Since 1901, people around the world have been connecting and communing with one another. Through radio, through marriage, through community. They share stories, create history, and leave a legacy for the next generation.
At Lem's Cafe, just like in 1901, we connect people together. We honor legacies, journies, and opportunities. We embrace our history and create a better future with the knowledge we have.
